NASM is the abbreviation used to describe the US-based National Academy of Sports Medicine. The organisation has been operational for over 20 years, and their health and fitness, sports performance and sports medicine training courses are among the most highly regarded in the industry, and internationally recognised.

The NASM certified Personal Trainer course offers an alternative training route to become a Personal Trainer. providing learners with the knowledge and skills to be able to safely and effectively plan, delver and evaluate Personal Training  sessions. It is aimed at individuals who want to pursue a career in the health and fitness industry as a Personal Trainer, whether that be in an employed or self-employed position. This qualification is ideal for individuals who have already obtained the Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instruction, or who possess a degree of fitness knowledge via other means, as a method to increase their knowledge and skills, progress their careers, and potentially increase their employability and earning potential.

The NASM certified Personal Trainer contains substantial amounts of exercise science, and focusses on the correct application of this science. During this course learners will gain the knowledge and skills required to deliver  the NASM ‘Optimum Performance Training Model’, which is considered to be one of the most effective methods to achieve client progression and increase goal-achievement. At the centre of the OPT™ model is a thorough kinetic chain assessment, and during the workshops, learners will have the opportunity to explore the head-to-toe fitness assessment that is the ‘Overhead Squat’ – a systematic approach that evaluates an individual’s strengths and weaknesses in the areas of posture, movement, strength, and flexibility

However this course contains some fairly challenging theoretical concepts, and therefore it is recommended that learners possess some degree of fitness knowledge prior to enrolment.
